We were asked to create a magazine cover and contents page themed on school. I worked with Ricken, and we decided to theme our magazine on fashion within school, using the idea that geek is cool. Our model's clothes were therefore very important, and this was reflected in the colour scheme and brands. For example, our model Chanan is wearing a Billionaire Boys Club sweater which is in fashion, also in the contents page, the nike trainers are tan, which is a gold-type colour, and fits with the overall scheme. Other carefully selected pieces of clothing include the white watch and sunglasses. We wanted to incorporate animation design into our cover as shown in complex magazine. Other inspiration we took was from the cover with eminem on, for a red white and gold colour scheme. We spread the masthead along the top and chose a thick font with an almost cartoonish effect, which fitted with the animation idea, this is similar to the Complex magazine featuring Keri Hilson, as above.. We also positioned the text to slant slightly to add to the chunky cartoon idea. All of this was achieved through adobe photoshop, as well as using the website Myfonts. Time was one of the main issues with our magazine: our idea to use the animation was ambitious and time-consuming to put together. In hindsight, perhaps more text or cover lines on the front cover to make it seem more professional - like an actual magazine. Real magazines have a lot of infromation to put across, and they need to communicate this to prospective buyers. This exercise will be significant in the coursework, as i am intending to do a music magazine cover, and working with photoshop to create colour schemes and masthead ideas will be invaluable experience for my main coursework.
